Scientist/Senior Scientist, Protein Engineering at Acceleron Pharma
Cambridge, MA, US
Acceleron is a Cambridge-based, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development, and commercialization of therapeutics to treat serious and rare diseases. The Company's leadership in the understanding of TGF-beta biology and protein engineering generates innovative compounds that engage the body's ability to regulate cellular growth and repair.
Acceleron focuses its research and development efforts in hematologic, neuromuscular, and pulmonary diseases. In hematology, the Company and its global collaboration partner, Celgene, are developing luspatercept for the treatment of chronic anemia in myelodysplastic syndromes, beta-thalassemia, and myelofibrosis. Acceleron is also advancing its neuromuscular franchise with two distinct Myostatin+ agents, ACE-083 and ACE-2494, and a Phase 2 pulmonary program with sotatercept in pulmonary arterial hypertension.
What’s in it for you?

We are seeking an innovative and motivated Scientist with experience in protein engineering, cell biology, and state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques. The candidate will be a member of the Molecular and Cell Biology team within our Discovery Research department and will focus on drug discovery and development. This hire will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of our next-generation biologic therapeutics, with a focus on fusion proteins and antibodies. In addition, the candidate will be involved in construct design and cloning, mammalian cell recombinant protein expression, cell-based assay development, and analytical evaluation of the novel proteins.  We are looking for a candidate with a natural flair for innovation, outstanding analytical skills, and the ability to manage complex projects from conception to completion.

What are we looking for?
  • Ph.D. degree in protein engineering, structural biology, molecular biology, or related
  • 5+ years of experience designing, expressing, and screening fusion proteins or antibodies
  • Hands-on molecular biology skills in mammalian construct design, cloning, mutagenesis, and analysis of DNA and protein sequences
  • Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting cell-based assays, as well as interpreting, presenting, and statistically analyzing of the data
  • Experience using structure-based design and/or yeast or phage display library screening for protein engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and foster the career development of direct reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively by oral presentation, written technical reports, and scientific publications, and to interact across teams internally and externally
