Associate Scientist, Translational and Exploratory Biology at Acceleron Pharma
Cambridge, MA, US
Acceleron is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development, and commercialization of therapeutics to treat serious and rare diseases. The Company's leadership in the understanding of TGF-beta biology and protein engineering generates innovative compounds that engage the body's ability to regulate cellular growth and repair.

Acceleron focuses its research and development efforts in hematologic, neuromuscular, and pulmonary diseases. In hematology, the Company and its global collaboration partner, Celgene, are developing luspatercept for the treatment of chronic anemia in myelodysplastic syndromes, beta-thalassemia, and myelofibrosis. Acceleron is also advancing its neuromuscular program with ACE-083, a locally-acting Myostatin+ agent in Phase 2 development in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and is conducting a Phase 2 pulmonary program with sotatercept in pulmonary arterial hypertension.

What’s in it for you?

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to be part of our dynamic and collaborative Translational and Exploratory Biology group.  In this position, you will be involved in preclinical and translational research evaluating our developmental molecules in various diseases and disease models. You will be helping the translational biology team performing in-vivo studies, in-vitro and ex-vivo cell and tissue cultures.  You will also conduct end point analyses of scientific data including microscopic imaging and analysis with the goal of validating therapeutic potential of different drug targets.  You will apply your innovative mind to our cutting-edge science and work alongside a motivated team.

What will you be doing?
  • Supporting other team members in their preclinical/translational studies with end point analyses as described above
  • Maintaining human and animal primary cell and precision cut tissue cultures, drug treatments and performing end point analyses
  • Dosing animals that include mice and rats, end-point analysis including harvesting different tissues
  • Use different cellular, nucleic acid and protein based technologies for evaluating data
  • Tissue staining and evaluation of different proteins using various chromogenic and antibody based approaches such as western blotting immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and in-situ hybridization
  • Microscopic imaging and analysis. Quantitation and interpretation of data
  • Working with cross-functional drug development group to help bring research stage molecules to clinical development
  • Preparing, presenting and reviewing scientific presentations for internal/external use
 What are we looking for?
  • BS degree with 5+ years or MS degree with 3+ years of academic or industrial experience in different disease models or translational research
  • Must have experience in handling and processing human and rodent tissue and serum samples, cell and tissue cultures and performing precision cut tissue slices
  • Experience performing in vivo studies, dosing mice and rats
  • Extensive experience in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence staining and image acquisition using confocal and fluorescence microscopy instruments, microscopic image analysis and quantitation using various analysis software such as Halo, Imaris and Zen Blue
  • Extensive experience performing various analyses using techniques not limited to qRT-PCR, ELISA, western blotting etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, self-motivated, team-oriented and able to work independently
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities to meet project deadlines
How will you grow with us?

You will have an exciting opportunity as a member of our Translational and Exploratory Biology team to significantly contribute to our exciting and advancing programs.  We are expanding our translational function and you will be a key member in the execution of the group’s activities.  This opportunity will allow you to work with passionate team members who are dedicated to our innovative science; you will learn a great deal as well as teach us.  Join our team!
