Privacy Review, Product Management Lead at Facebook
Menlo Park, CA, US
Facebook—and indeed the entire consumer tech industry—is at a crossroads in its relationship with society. Regulators, politicians, privacy advocates, journalists, and ultimately consumers expect the major tech platforms to take more responsibility for preventing harm to their users. “Privacy” is an umbrella for many categories of risk that come with running a global-scale public and free platform. We are committed to being better stewards of people’s trust, and building products designed with privacy at their core.

The Privacy Review, Product Management Lead is a new role in the Product Management organization at Facebook. We review every product launch and data use decision to ensure that we are building products that are safe for our community and honor our users’ expectations around privacy. And we work closely with teams to evaluate tradeoffs and find novel product solutions to thorny privacy-related problems.

You will serve as the primary point of contact for privacy for one of our top-level product groups, e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Ads, etc. Along with your team of privacy program managers and privacy-focused product managers, you will be responsible for all privacy product review work in that group. For the thorniest issues, you will be responsible for synthesizing guidance from legal and policy stakeholders as well as product leadership, and presenting a strategic recommendation to the company-level privacy leadership and ultimately the CEO.

The ideal candidate has two distinct skill sets. First and foremost, we are looking for accomplished product leaders who know how to build great products, work closely with world-class engineering teams, and rally multiple constituents towards a common goal. But we also need principled thinkers, comfortable with nuance, non-obvious tradeoffs and conflicting goals. People who are capable of “descending into the particular” while generalizing into abstractions that can be applied globally. In this role, you will need to be as comfortable going deep into technical discussions with line engineers as you are recommendations to leadership on behalf of a group of cross-functional leads who don’t quite agree.

This is a unique role: you won’t own any products but you will have a hand in every product. And you will play a key role in shaping the future of Facebook and the tech industry overall.
