UI Engineer at Groupon
Dublin, IE

The Business:

Based in Chicago and operating in major regions globally, we are a local e-commerce marketplace where people discover and save on amazing things to do, see, eat and buy in their neighbourhoods.

Groupon Ireland is looking for a UI Engineer to join our Marketing Engineering Team, to help us expand our global digital marketing platform.

We build systems to automate online marketing campaigns, track user behaviour and report on business performance in real time. Our services run in multiple data centres (a mix of cloud and on-premise hosting) and use technologies such as:

  • Node.js

  • React/Redux

  • Vue/Vuex

For this role we have consumer-facing and internal-facing products which require someone with a passion for building efficient and easy-to-use user-interfaces.

What impact will your work have?

At Groupon we operate on a global scale, so your work will impact millions of customers. We prioritise getting code into production quickly, measuring its impact and learning from data, not hunches.

What kind of person are you and what experience do you need?

We are looking for someone who is an expert in at least one Javascript framework (such as React, Vue or Angular) but a grasp of software engineering fundamentals and design is more important than knowing the right framework from day one. A strong interest in and experience of UX design is a plus, as is previous exposure to an Agile development environment. We expect qualifications such as BS, MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

What will you do on a daily basis?

While implementing robust and scalable web applications, you will get to design and develop new user interfaces, working closely with our internal customers to create the best user experience.  You will also collaborate with colleagues in Ireland and the US who provide the back-end infrastructure, data analytics and performance metrics for our systems.

You will get a lot of ownership and you have complete responsibility from initial design all the way to production deployment and monitoring. Groupon encourages innovation by its engineers and provides an environment which supports new ideas and different ways of doing things.
