Copywriter at 99designs

We’re looking for an amazing Copywriter to join the 99designs team in our Melbourne office. Part time, school-time or full-time, we value capability over clichés and as such are flexible with set hours for this role.  

As a Copywriter at 99designs, you’ll use your creative finesse and way with words to drive our brand voice and deliver written projects from brief to completion. You’ll play an essential role in building a brand for a company that has revolutionised design, creates opportunities for people around the world, and is backed by the same investors as Slack and Dropbox.

 

Responsibilities

  • Write world-class copy and content for a variety of formats, including emails, web pages, press releases and media articles, print ads, marketing campaigns etc.

  • Edit content written by others, including blog articles, PR bylines, web copy etc

  • Evangelise our brand voice across the company, and collaborate across teams and departments to ensure all public-facing copy represents who we are

  • Inspire and provide copywriting expertise within 99designs

  • Collaborate with internal design team, content team, marketers, external freelancers and others to complete high-quality projects in a timely fashion

  • Manage writing and editing projects from brief to completion 

  • Help develop or improve written creative processes 

 

Requirements

  • Ability to think creatively, write strategically, and say a lot in a few words 

  • Strong copy editing, substantive editing and proofreading skills

  • A sharp editorial eye and an understanding of what stories will resonate with different audiences (e.g. SMB customers, designers, mainstream media etc) 

  • Ability to work well from a brief/outline, but also comfortable in making suggestions and bringing fresh ideas to the table

  • Good at integrating editorial feedback into your written work

  • Stylistic control; you can write something in your own voice, our brand voice, the CEO’s voice, etc, and know when to choose comprehension over clever (and vice versa)

  • A compelling portfolio of work that demonstrates high-quality writing for a variety of campaigns and projects

  • Around 5 years of related experience

  • Organisational skills, attention to detail, an ability to multitask

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative attitude

  • A proven track record of delivering quality work on time

 

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with writing for SEO and/or UX

  • Previous experience at interactive, advertising, or marketing/creative agency a plus

  • Experience with Wordpress and other content management systems

  • Knowledgeable of, or a background in, branding, graphic design, or art/art history

  • Experience creating content for non-written media (e.g. storyboards, infographics, video scripts, etc)
