Software Engineer, Applied Privacy Technology at Facebook

We are seeking Software Engineers with experience in building privacy or security infrastructure, or tools in backend infra, mobile or data warehouses. The ability to think about relevant threat models, and to consider and communicate strengths, limitations and trade-offs between various solutions is critical for this role. Our team will be working with different teams and products across FB to help them build and integrate new privacy-preserving solutions. We need someone who loves the challenge of designing and deploying privacy technology at scale, and can reimagine and adapt academic solutions to practical limitations of deploying for billions of users.

  • Develop awareness of how data is handled and used across our products and infrastructure and where and how privacy tech can help.
  • Build scalable privacy-preserving solutions, that are cognizant of practical limitations and product needs.
  • Take a leadership role in advocating for privacy-preserving solutions and to identify new, high-impact opportunities for their deployment.
  • Collaborate with engineers across the company in product teams, in privacy/data organizations.
  • Communicate and advocate our privacy tools and solutions both internal and externally.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Privacy, Security, Cryptography.
  • Experience with programming and/or scripting languages such C/C++, PHP, Java.
  • Experience contributing to the privacy/cryptography/security community (open source, academic research, standardization, industry research, blogs, presentations, etc.).
  • Experience with cryptography, differential privacy, anonymity and working with tools and libraries for developing such solutions.
  • Experience working with large datasets, using tools such as Hadoop/Hive/HBase/Pig or MapReduce/Sawzall/Bigtable.
  • Experience with client engineering (iOS or Android).
