About the role

Zillow is looking for a motivated and collaborative leader at the head of the Zillow Core Technology Infrastructure team. This team supports physical IT infrastructure throughout Zillow, including production data centers, enterprise MDF/IDF deployments, and server infrastructure. This is an unrivaled opportunity within Zillow, with unlimited potential. We are looking for a natural leader who can continue the evolution of this team, focused on employee development, budget, and business process. The ideal candidate has a deep curiosity about technology along with a mind for organization and order, including recent experience with OKRs or Smart Goals, budget cycle, and implementing automation when appropriate. While experience working with, or leading a team focused on large-scale data center environment and working with enterprise server technologies are desired, it is not necessary for this role.

This role is responsible for removing roadblocks for the team and determining direction, while defining and implementing processes to speed up and improve deployment and support of hardware infrastructure across our internal and production data center environments. This can range from inventory control to monitoring, break-fix to vendor management and contract re-negotiation. This is a fast paced position, requiring significant coordination and cooperation with a variety of engineering teams including Storage, Networking, Server Support, Telephony, Database, and Facilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Determine key goals and focus for the team based on business needs
  • Develop budget and identify cost savings opportunities
  • Lead team in deploying server and office builds under tight deadlines
  • Lead all aspects of installation and management of data a center environmental infrastructure, server/network infrastructure components, as well as asset tracking and management
  • Coordinate work with a variety of vendors and lead vendor performance
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to remove project obstacles
  • Work with multiple engineering teams to design hardware deployments
  • Lead team in documenting standard operating procedures

Your background may be in server support or datacenter management, technical support or closely related fields.
  • Are experienced in developing high dollar budgets and tracking against them
  • Developed sophisticated goals and associated metrics to measure success against those goals
  • Solid grasp of data center infrastructure elements (Power, HVAC, low voltage, server/network architecture)
  • Worked with basic network configurations (VLANs, Trunkports, IP configurations)
  • Advanced understanding of server architecture and related industry trends
  • Strong customer service skills and demeanor with easy going and approachable personality
  • Able to deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes when required
  • Experienced in managing third parties for hardware and software support
  • Possess solid understanding of hybrid data center environments as well as current trends in cloud infrastructure is a plus
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and should be able to work closely with clients and other technical partners
  • Have valid driver’s license and their own vehicle and be willing to travel within the Seattle area and abroad
  • Works effectively with minimum supervision and function well under pressure
  • Ability to support standing, pushing, bending, reaching, lifting heavy IT equipment (20-40lbs), and working on ladders
