The Instagram Shopping team is building an end-to-end seamless shopping experience for people on Instagram. People come to Instagram every day to connect with brands (96% of people follow at least 1 business) and brands have played a large and important role in interest communities on Instagram. This has naturally given way to shopping activity, where people are trying to shop their favorite brands on Instagram. Our team builds exciting ways for people to discover, consider and ultimately buy products on Instagram and builds free tools for retail businesses to help them more easily sell their products in these unique and differentiated ways. Today, around 412,000 Monthly Active IG Businesses utilize our organic Shopping tools, 90 million IG MAP are visiting product pages organically, driving 590 million organic product page visits each month.
This role will lead the product team building a best-in-class experience for sellers who want to grow their businesses on Shopping and creators who want to share products they love with their communities, thereby driving the inventory of brands and products that people can shop from on Instagram. This means you’ll think about the entire journey of a seller using Shopping and you’ll lead a team of PMs working on everything from seller growth (domestically and international) to seller value to innovative merchandising tools such as shoppable content (including Shopping in Live, Stories, IGTV), and Instagram marketing tools, such as Shopping from Creators (aka influencers).
On growth — You will oversee the teams responsible for increasing seller adoption of Instagram Shopping through on-boarding and activation. You will be responsible for partnering with commerce platform teams within Facebook as well as third party platforms to grow both Instagram Shopping and Instagram Shopping with Checkout. With seller value, you will lead the strategy for defining value (transactional and non-transactional) and delivering value per business segment. You will also drive Shopping From Creators, creating new ways for sellers to market their products on Instagram and think about how creators can best share products and content while turning their passion into a living. You will drive the creation and adoption of daily formats for sellers sharing their products with their followers. Finally, you will oversee the Shops Experience for Instagram and will partner with ABP teams to build merchant and buyer experience.
Sellers & Creators is one of three sub-pillars within the Instagram Shopping Pillar. The IG Shopping Pillar is also responsible for Instagram Shop, the personalized mall for people, as well as consideration, purchase and post-purchase.
We are looking for an extremely entrepreneurial lead with exceptional executive presence, communication, leadership to help innovate and execute product initiatives across the company with strong ability to influence. This position is full-time and based at our New York office.
Product Management Director, Sellers & Creators, Instagram Shopping Responsibilities
Establish shared vision across the company by building consensus on priorities leading to product execution
Partner closely with Facebook and Instagram executive product leadership to develop a multi-year vision for the future of Shopping balanced with shorter-term growth goals
Understand Instagram’s strategic and competitive position and deliver products that are recognized best in the industry. Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Marketing, Design, Data Science and others to ideate, develop, launch and grow compelling product experiences for sellers and creators
Lead and develop a team of 5+ talented Product Managers
Maximize efficiency in a constantly evolving environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are the norm
10+ years of Product Management experience building products from ideation through to launching, building and managing multiple revenue-generating products
5+ years of experience building seller-facing eCommerce products
8+ years of experience in technical architecture of web applications and/or media products
8+ years of experience designing user interfaces
8+ years of experience taking a mobile/web product idea from concept through launch
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience
Experience operating autonomously in a constantly changing and fast paced environment
Experience working with cross-functional teams, partner teams and executives
Experience in building, leading and managing a team of Product Managers staffed across a variety of products
Experience working on creator monetization products
Experience working on back-end seller tools
