Meet your Future Neighbors

We are seeking an experienced Head of Community Relations to build and evolve a thriving two-way community that connects neighbors to the experiences and conversations they seek in their communities. In this newly created role, you will initially lead support, education, and outreach between Nextdoor and its Neighborhood Leads -- local area volunteers who want to help make their neighborhoods be more vibrant, trustworthy, and kind.

The successful leader will be energized by the idea of helping neighbors engage in positive, healthy, civil dialogue. The ongoing goal is to continuously develop develop this program and apply systems thinking to the way we define the role of Leads as we scale. This includes determining the needs to be met in a new vs. a mature market. Core to the role’s mission is ensuring a diversity of voices are represented and respected. 

This leadership position requires exceptional interpersonal and people manager skills, a sharp sense for what gets people engaged (talking & sharing), and the ability to effectively measure success using traditional and non-traditional metrics.
The Impact You’ll Make

This role will oversee the Neighborhood Leads program both in the US and globally (11 markets in total and growing). There are three distinct elements of this role:

1) Product

    Work closely with the Neighborhood Vitality product team to create top tier product features that assist in all areas of neighborhood management
    Build and maintain world class feedback loops on issues significantly impacting Neighborhood Leads and neighbor experience
    Define and track metrics that provide valuable insights into the Nextdoor experience (for both Neighborhood Leads and members) and feed into measurements of what success looks like

2) People

    Work in close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to identify opportunities from concept creation, to validation, to on-going support across Product, Marketing, Neighborhood Vitality, Communications, Neighborhood Operations, Support and more
    Create engagement programs, activities, events and groups with the goal of building connectivity and harnessing passion, creativity and resources to nurture and scale welcoming, tight knit neighborhoods
    Build close relationships between Nextdoor and the most passionate members of the Community

3) Process 

    Rebrand and relaunch community programs with new structures, roles, expectations and programming
    Develop and execute the Leads Journey (acquisition, onboard, training, support, recognition)
    Strengthen and promote community guidelines in partnership with Trust & Safety
    Partner with Moderation to ensure a safe, welcoming place for all neighbors

    Excellent interpersonal and project management skills. Ability to discover opportunities and adapt and make decisions under uncertainty in a fast-paced environment will be required.
    Empathetic partner and influencer. Have a keen sense of how to drive quality conversations and engagement through programs, outreach efforts and other means. program
    Data driven mindset. Nimbly using metrics to test, learn and optimize.A proven track record defining and moving projects from concept to completion and experience with piloting ideas and scaling what works.
    A systems thinker. Deep understanding of scaleable online community dynamics.  
    Community organization. This leader will have 10+ of experience managing or engaging a community, whether online or offline and have comfortability with up to 30% travel.
