Affirm, Inc., seeks an upbeat and talented lawyer to join its lean and mighty Legal team as Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property. Based in San Francisco, this individual will report to Senior Corporate Counsel: Privacy, Protection, and Trust, and will advise product, engineering, marketing, and operations and support the building and maintenance of Affirm’s intellectual property portfolio and rights. What You’ll Do

  • Develop and lead all aspects of Affirm’s intellectual property portfolios to protect Affirm's product development, marketing, and expansion
  • Draft and prosecute trademark and patent applications (US and foreign patent offices)
  • Counsel Affirm business team regarding IP strategy and identification of patentable inventions
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Draft nondisclosure, license and other agreements involving the use, transfer, or ownership of intellectual property
  • Provide support for corporate development activities, including licensing and acquisitions
  • Address regulatory matters relating to intellectual property
  • Train and educate the Company’s business teams on the importance of intellectual property rights and how to protect them

What We Look For

  • J.D. degree and a state bar member in good standing
  • 6+ years of legal experience related to intellectual property counseling, financial services, and IP portfolio development and management
  • Proven experience as a key contributing member of a high performing team
  • Inquisitive and proactive in identifying risks and proposing creative and effective solutions
  • Strong project management, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present sophisticated issues in a clear and persuasive manner
  • Passion for improving consumer credit products and customer experiences
