About Lightbend

Lightbend technology enables developers to easily build the most demanding, data-centric, globally distributed apps.

Job Description

Lightbend’s cloud platform Kalix makes distributed systems and design patterns consumable as a service. Our mission is to take care of the complexities of running distributed systems, allowing developers to focus on their business logic while delivering resilient and scalable systems with low latency. We are taking the traditional stateless FaaS model, and turning it on its head, pushing into the uncharted territory of managing stateful application code, built on the solid foundations of tried and tested distributed computing principles that we have successfully delivered over more than a decade.

We are seeking a Software Engineer experienced in extending Kubernetes to join the Kalix team and work full-time on our vision for the next generation Platform-as-a-Service.

Responsibilities

The area to work on will be broad and will include the responsibilities outlined below. Of course, these duties may change as Lightbend’s offering evolves over time to best meet the needs of its clients.

  • Make a difference in all phases of the software development lifecycle which includes planning, analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance of Kalix
  • Build deep, full-stack knowledge of our platforms and applications
  • Help create and maintain an environment that provides security and privacy for our customers' data
  • Be involved in operating the Platform-as-a-Service with on-call during daytime hours

Candidates should live anywhere in Eastern North America, as this is a fully remote position. This is much more than a developer position - we are looking for a multi-talented expert to be a part of building and running our offering.

Qualifications

You should be technical and team-oriented with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experienced developer, with deep knowledge of the Kubernetes ecosystem and developing extensions to it
  • Programming experience with multiple languages: Go, Java, Scala
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes internals, including Operators, CRDs, and security
  • Feeling at home across Linux, containers (Docker) and the different cloud services
  • Experience with many of the supporting technologies we use, including Crossplane, Prometheus, Flux, Service Mesh frameworks, etc.
  • Experience with complex and secure networking environments, including Encryption Keys, and TLS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English)
  • University degree in Computer Science, or related/equivalent knowledge
  • 5+ years in the software development industry

Ideally, you also...

  • Have knowledge of Lightbend’s Akka platform.
  • Have worked on production systems on multiple cloud providers.
  • Have an awareness of Serverless/Functions-as-a-service Platforms.
  • Have experience with improving infrastructure and application observability.

Frequently cited statistics show that women and underrepresented groups apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. Lightbend encourages you to break that statistic and to apply.
